As Kate Loughlin

When he was looking for inspiration for a heroine in a Romantic Comedy director Graham Cantwell had to look no further than leading lady Amy-Joyce Hastings. “I had known Amy-Joyce for years”, he says, “and I’d heard so many stories from her about working as an actress in the film industry, really funny stories, so I decided to base my main character on her. There’s a lot of Amy-Joyce in Kate, she’s got talent, principles and a lot of drive.”

One of the leading young Irish actresses of her generation, Amy-Joyce began her career aged 8 as the daughter of Academy Award winner Julie Christie in Fools of Fortune and has worked with world famous directors like Agnieszka Holland (The Secret Garden) and A-List stars like Henry Cavill (The Tudors), so she has plenty to draw on in her portrayal of Kate Loughlin.

Says Amy-Joyce, “Kate’s quite a happy-go-lucky character and determined to succeed, but she’s stuck in a rut in both her relationship and career. She has this sleazy agent who’s trying to persuade her to use her ‘feminine wiles’ to get ahead in the industry, but she puts up her guard and resists that because she’s really very principled. When she meets Vincent they click, there’s a genuine spark, but then she has this conflict within herself, this built in resistance.”

Speaking about the production she says, “London is almost like a character in the film. It’s the hub of filmmaking in Europe so there are a lot of international characters and the cast playing them were brilliant. I think it’s one of the strong points of the film. It was a really collaborative set with a tight knit crew and everyone got along great so you can’t ask for better than that!”
